CHENNAI: The State government on Monday informed the Madras High Court that it has come up with a Bill to regulate digital banners under the city Municipal Corporation Act and laws governing municipalities. It made the submission when a contempt petition, seeking action against official authorities, including the Chennai Collector and Commissioners of Chennai Corporation and Police, came up before a Division Bench, comprising Justices D. Murugesan and S. Nagamuthu. Additional Advocate-General P. Wilson said that as and when the Bill comes into force, installation of such digital banners would be regulated as per law. In his petition, K.R. Ramaswamy alias ‘Traffic' Ramaswamy, a social worker, stated that the authorities had wilfully disobeyed the orders of the High Court dated January 29 last year regarding erection of digital banners on pavements and roadsides. The Bench said it did not want to keep the petition pending. Accordingly, it was closing the petition. However, the court said the petitioner was at liberty to approach this court if there was delay in the Bill being enacted and consequently action is not taken to prevent such erection of digital banners along roadside.
