SBI heritage gallery inaugurated

KAKINADA: The State Bank of India heritage gallery was inaugurated on the Main Road on Tuesday. The Kakinada branch of the Bank of Madras was opened in a rented accommodation on January 1, 1864, and was shifted to the present premises on November 4, 1929. The branch, consisting of five rooms, two verandas and two entry/exit points to the gallery, was now converted into gallery, in which the old furniture had been restored along with preservation of old bank records, valuable remnants of the past across the SBI's branches in the State.

Inaugurating the gallery, Deputy Managing Director of SBI Shiva Kumar said Kakinada was the centre for the SBI's A.P. museum, as this centre was the first location where the SBI was born in the State. The project was aimed at making the employees of the bank as well as the public know the history of the bank, he said.
