NEW DELHI: A delegation of Senior Citizen Councils, Mauritius, called on Delhi Speaker Yoganand Shastri and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday.

During the visit to the two leaders, the delegation, led by Jai Lall, spoke about the facilities being provided by the Mauritius Government to senior citizens.

For her part, Ms. Dikshit, who met the delegates at her residence, said the Delhi Government has been providing the highest pension in the country to senior citizens. They are also given special priority in hospitals, she claimed.

Pointing out how the Delhi Government was running a number of Old Age Homes where recreation facilities were also being provided, she said these Homes are being upgraded to provide the due respect to the elderly.

The delegation met Speaker Yoganand Shastri at the Delhi Assembly in Old Secretariat. Dr. Shastri said there were a lot of similarities in the culture, customs, rituals, festivals, music and dance of the people of Mauritius and India. This is the reason why Mauritius has also been called a “Mini India”, he said.
