‘Rachabanda': Kiran can take part till EC decision

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy can participate in ‘Rachabanda' programme in the 12 districts where Council elections are being held until the Election Commission takes a decision whether it would amount to violation of the code of conduct.

The code has come into effect in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad where the elections will be held on March 13. The EC will base its decision on the reports submitted by district election officers.

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal said here on Tuesday that he would send the observations of the district election officers along with his own remarks to the EC.

He said the Chief Minister and Ministers, while participating in ‘Rachabanda', should not announce any scheme or sop benefiting teachers or graduates who are the electors in the biennial elections.
