Resounding win for Tamil Nadu

Principal Correspondent

Perinthalmanna: S. Badrinath's superbly paced century (102) set up a resounding win for Tamil Nadu over Goa in the K.S. Subbiah Pillai Trophy one-day cricket tournament here on Friday.

The 100-run win also fetched Tamil Nadu a bonus point over Goa which was mentally beaten after Tamil Nadu had posted an imposing total of 334 for six. The Tamil Nadu batsmen eschewed risks at the start and once the pitch lost the early moisture they opened up.

None exemplified this better than Badrinath who changed gears after completing his fifty. Badrinath, who completed his first 50 off 55 balls, took another 22 to score his second fifty.

Skipper Dinesh Karthik muscled his way to a quick 42 and the third wicket stand with Badrinath yielded 113 runs off just 68 balls. The partnership changed the contest as till then Goan bowlers had kept the TN batsmen on a tight leash.

Both Karthik and Badrinath made optimum use of the third Power Play in which they flayed 69 runs.

At Fort Maidan in Palakkad, Andhra bounced back into contention with a six-wicket win over Hyderabad. After bundling out Hyderabad for 115, Andhra cruised home and earned a valuable bonus point.

The scores: Tamil Nadu 334 for six in 50 overs (S. Badrinath 102, Abhinav Mukund 74, M. Vijay 41) bt Goa 234 for seven in 50 overs (S.S. Dhuri 65 n.o., Amit Yadav 44 n.o., Vaibhav Naik 38, Swapnil Asnodkar 37, R. Satish three for 20).

Hyderabad 115 in 36 overs (D.B. Ravi Teja 47, Shankar Rao three for 34) lost to Andhra 116 for four in 23.3 overs.
