Farm budget to root out middlemen
Special Correspondent
CHICKBALLAPUR: Minister for Agriculture Umesh V. Katti on Friday said that steps to eliminate the middlemen menace, which was hindering farmers from getting lucrative prices for their produce, would be announced in the Agriculture Budget.
He was speaking after inaugurating the first ever fruits and vegetables market complex set up on a cooperative model by fruits and vegetable growers' associations at Hadonahalli village in Doddaballapur taluk of Bangalore Rural district. Mr. Katti said that after studying the functioning of the new market, which has come up on the UAS-Bangalore's Agriculture Research Centre at Hadonahalli, similar markets would be established in other parts of the State.
Earlier, varsity Vice-Chancellor K. Narayana Gowda told presspersons that the new market would help local vegetable and fruit growers as they were spending around Rs. 4 crore annually on transportation.
