Akademi fellowships presented

Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty felicitated

Honour:Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby felicitating Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty at a function at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi in Thrissur on Sunday.

THRISSUR: The Kerala Sahitya Akademi fellowships and awards for 2010 were presented at a function here on Sunday.

Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty was felicitated on the occasion. Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby presented him a gold medal.

K. Sachidanandan and C. Radhakrishnan received the Akademi fellowships, which carried a cash prize of Rs.50,000, a citation, a plaque and two sovereigns gold medal each.

Omcheri N.N. Pillai, S. Ramesan Nair, K. Gopalakrishnan, Malayathu Appunni, Sara Thomas and Joseph Mattam were given the Akademi's life-time achievement awards, which carried a cash prize of Rs.30,000, a certificate and a plaque each.

The others who received the awards were novel: Khadeeja Mumtaz (Barsa); poetry: Mullanezhi (Kavitha); drama: A. Santhakumar (Maram Peyyunnu); short story: E.P. Sreekumar (Parasya Shareeram); literary criticism: M.R. Chandrasekharan (Malayalam novel Innum Innaleyum); scholarly literature: T. Pradeep (Kunju Kanangalkku Vasantham); travelogue: Muzaffar Ahmed (Marubhoomiyude Atmakatha); translation: Ashalatha (Aadinte Virunnu); children's literature: Sumangala (Nadannu Theeratha Vazhikal); and humour: C.R. Omanakuttan (Sreebhoothavilasam Nair Hotel).

The following endowment awards were also presented — I.C. Chacko Award (P. Sreekumar/Adhwanam, Bhasha, Vimochanam); C.B. Kumar Award (Hameed Chendamangallur/Oru Matha Nirapeskha Vadiyude Swathanthra Chinthakal); K.R. Namboodiri Award (P.V. Ramankutty/Yajur Veda Sameeksha); Gita Hiranyan Award (Sushmesh Chandrothu/Swarna Mahal); G.N. Pillai award (K. Babu Joseph/Apekshikathayude Nooru Varshangal); and Kuttipuzha Award (N.M. Namboodiri/Kakkadu: Kaviyum Kavithayum).

Akademi president P. Valsala and secretary Purushan Kadalundi were among those present on the occasion.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated three floors of the Sahitya Akademi golden jubilee building.
