Muralidharan triumphs

KOTTAYAM: Ernakulam's M.B. Muralidharan, with eight points from nine rounds, won the Kalathipady YMCA Open all-Kerala chess tournament at Kalathipady on Sunday.

Thiruvananthapuram's young S.L. Narayanan finished runner-up. S.L. Parvathy, also from the State Capital, won the junior title while Ernakulam's Dennis Jose emerged as the sub-junior champion.

Final placings:

Open: 1. M.B. Muralidharan (8 pts), 2. S.L. Narayanan (Tvm, 7), 3. O.T. Anilkumar (7), 4. K.A. Unas (Ekm, 7), 5. P. Sreekumar (Tvm, 6.5).

Juniors: 1. S.L. Parvathy (Tvm), 2. Chander Raj (Ekm), 3. Peter Joseph.
