KOCHI: Founder of ‘Art of Living, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, laid the foundation stone for a spiritual township at Thottuva, near Kalady, on Sunday. The township consists of an ashram surrounded by over 120 houses for devotees, spread over 13.5 acres of land. The spiritual township is the first of its kind under the AOL. It is based on universal brotherhood and peaceful co-existence of people of all faiths, to provide food, shelter, and knowledge, according to him. Facilities for meditation and yoga would be made available at the township. Other amenities include a de-addiction centre and an ayurvedic hospital. The ashram is being set up on the banks of river Periyar and there is a plan to construct a bridge across the river. He said the idea of setting up of a spiritual township, to be built in three phases, was first conceived in the United States. The project was being set up in Kerala in deference to the wishes of the people of Kerala. The Guruji, as he is called by the disciples, arrived by air from Thiruvananthapuram and later left for Thrissur, as part of his six-day visit to the State.
