KOZHIKODE: Minister for Forests and Housing Benoy Viswom inaugurated a national seminar on ‘Spinal Disorders in Ayurveda,' organised by the Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala, here on Sunday. M.K. Raghavan, MP, presided over the inaugural function. T. Shivadas of the Directorate of Ayurvedic Medical Education (DAME) delivered the keynote address. Dr. Shivadas also conducted the first sale of ‘Brihat Dantapala Tailam,' a new product of Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala for psoriasis patients. Group partner of the Oushadhasala E.T. Neelakantan Mooss; Director of the National Research Institute of Panchakarma, Cheruthuruthy, N. Jaya; Principal of Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram P.K. Asok; Principal of VPSV Ayurveda College, Kottakkal, M.P. Easwara Sarma; Vice-Principal of Shanthigiri Ayurveda Medical College P. Raveendran; and Director of Vaidyaratnam group K.K. Vasudevan; were present at the inaugural function. Sessions In the two sessions that followed, experts spoke on diagnosis and treatment methods for spinal disorders. In the morning session, S. Gopakumar of Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, presented a paper on ‘Diagnosis and evaluation of Spinal Disorders.' T. Sreekumar of Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College, Ollur, presented a paper on ‘Role of Samanachikitsa in Spinal Disorders. K. Shankaran of DAME and Principal of KMCT Ayurveda College, Kozhikode, Chandini S.G. were the moderators of the session. Paper presentation A paper presented by G. Vinod Kumar of Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, on ‘Role of Panchakarma in the management of Spinal Disorders' and another by M.J. George of VPSV Ayurveda College, Kottakkal, on ‘Role of Marmachikitsa in Spinal Disorders' were the point of discussion in the afternoon session of the seminar. More than 500 doctors from the district besides delegates from all over the country took part in the programme.
