CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday gave Rs. 55 lakh to the family members of Tamil scholar and founder of Tamizharasu Kazhagam Ma.Po. Sivagnanam, known as Ma.Po.Si. The proceeds came from the auction of a golden sword and crown presented to him by the South Chennai district unit of the DMK in a public meeting organised on the day of the party's general council meeting on February 3. The value of the sword and crown was Rs. 30 lakh. Mr. Karunanidhi had auctioned the items while inaugurating the statute of Ma.Po.Si. in Chennai. A local DMK functionary bought the sword and crown for Rs. 55 lakh. On Sunday, Mr. Karunanidhi invited the family members of Ma.Po.Si and handed over the money. The late leader's daughter-in-law, T. Jagadeeswari, grand-daughters T. Parameswari, and Sundari Nithyanandam were given Rs 3,05,555 each. Another grand-daughter J. Nandini and grandsons T.Thirugnanam and T. Gnanasivam received Rs. 3,05,556 each. His daughters S. Kannagi and M.S. Madhavi received Rs. 18,33,333 each. The family members thanked the Chief Minster for his gesture. Information Minister Parithi Illamvazhuthi, Tamil Development and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Secretary R. Sivakumar and Tamil Development director K.V. Ezhilarasu were present.
