TDP wants Rachabanda details

Seeks white paper on number of ration cards issued, Indiramma houses and other schemes

‘The government only tried to clear pending dues and no new beneficiaries were covered'

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that the government release a white paper on the sanctions made during the just-concluded Rachabanda, the mass contact programme for on the spot redressal of grievances pertaining to various welfare schemes.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, TDP general secretary Varla Ramaiah said the government should bring out details of fresh sanctions under ration cards, Indiramma houses and other schemes during the 20-day programme. “The government only tried to clear pending dues during Rachabanda and no new beneficiaries are covered,” he said.

The programme witnessed protests from different sections and not a single day passed without police resorting to lathicharge and arrest of agitators. “There were several instances where Ministers had to cancel their meetings unable to face the protestors,” he said.

Mr. Ramaiah said poor and downtrodden sections, Muslims and Dalits in particular, secured no benefits from Rachabanda and the programme helped in publicising the elevation of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to the post. This was evident from the fact that the government did not clear 30 per cent dues of Indiramma houses.
