Petition submitted to Collector

TUTICORIN: A group of members belonging to ‘Vaadhiriyaan' community submitted a petition to Collector C.N. Maheshwaran on Monday appealing him to maintain status quo in their position in the Scheduled Caste list and not to categorise them as ‘Devendrakula Vellalar.'

The petitioners said the State Government recently released an advertisement appealing to those belonging to Kudumban, Pannadi, Kaalaadi, Kadaiyan, Devendrakulathaan, Pallan and Vaadhiriyaar sects to register their opinions on calling the members of all these sect as ‘Devendrakula Vellalar' with a one-member commission appointed in this connection.

“We, members of ‘Vaadhiriyaan' sect, appeal to the government to allow us to be in the 72nd position in the list of Scheduled Caste, as we are getting the State Government benefits as a SC, privileges of the Centre as OBC and the Christian Vaadhiriyaan as BC.

Since the reclassification of our community under ‘Devendrakula Vellala' will undermine the social relationship of the ‘Vaadhiriyaan,' the State Government should maintain status quo in this regard,” they said.
