Signature collection drive taken up in Harapanahalli

BJP accused of not keeping any of its

electoral promises

Protesters have decided to file cases against

the Government

DAVANGERE: Members of the Janawadi Mahila Sangha in Harapanahalli have launched a drive to collect signatures of the residents against the Bharatiya Janata Party government for what they described as not keeping any of its electoral promises.

Visiting every household in Harapanahalli to collect the signatures, the members have alleged that the BJP had betrayed the people and belied their hopes.

Appeal

Forwarding a list of allegations against the BJP government, the sangha has appealed to the Governor to recommend to the Union Government for its removal. The sangha has said that the State Government had failed to provide rice at Rs. 2 a kg to the poor people, extend financial assistance to self-help groups at 4 per cent interest, supply uninterrupted 24-hour quality power to farmers and pay compensation to flood-affected people. It has decided to file petitions in court against the Government.

Condemning the firing orders issued against farmers who were protesting against short supply of fertilizer and the alleged assault on workers who were demanding minimum wages and proper work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the sangha said cases would be filed in courts on these incidents as well under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The sangha has claimed that it had collected thousands of signatures of those who were against the continuance of the BJP government in the State. President of the sangha T. Pregna and other leaders participated in the signature collection drive.
