Be job-givers, not seekers: Jagathrakshakan

Special Correspondent

“Future of the country lies in the hands of engineers”

Wishing luck: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting S. Jagathrakshakan presenting degree certificates at the Graduation Day of C. Abdul Hakeem College of Engineering and Technology in Melvisharam on Wednesday.

VELLORE: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting S. Jagathrakshakan has called upon engineering graduates and students to set up their own business and industrial ventures so that they can give jobs to thousands of people, instead of seeking jobs.

He was delivering the Graduation Day address at the 9th Graduation Day of C. Abdul Hakeem College of Engineering & Technology (CAHCET) in Melvisharam on Wednesday.

Mr. Jagathrakshakan said engineering was the most important science, and the future of India lay in the hands of the engineers, who are the builders of the nation. Sincere efforts are needed for students to succeed in their career. “Have an ideal, and work towards achieving it. Do not beg for jobs, but aim at setting up your own businesses and industrial ventures so that you can give employment to thousands of people,” he said.

The Union Minister said that Indian engineers, especially Tamils, were occupying top positions in the U.S. When he went to the rocket launching station of the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) in Houston, U.S., he was told that out of 13 scientists involved in the rocket-launching programme, 11 were Indians. “Our country has all the talent, wealth and resources,” he said.

Mr. Jagathrakshakan distributed degree certificates to Sameena Banu, topper in B.Tech. Information Technology, who also secured the 41st rank in the Anna University examinations, held in 2010. He also gave away certificates to other candidates.

V.M. Abdul Latheef, Correspondent of CAHCET, said that 35 per cent of the Indian population today constituted youth. This youth power should be utilised to surpass China in industrial development. He called upon MPs and MLAs to ensure livelihood opportunities for Muslims, other backward class people and Dalits. He urged the graduates to take an oath that they would take proper care of their parents in their old age.

S. Ziauddin Ahmed, Chairman of CAHCET, presided. A. Kumar, principal declared open the 9th Graduation Day. R. Gandhi, Ranipet MLA, and T.A. Mohammed Saqhy, former MP, spoke.
