Sruthisagar Yamunan

Fire service clearance to move maternity ward awaited

PUDUCHERRY: The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) office at Rue De La Compaigne near Beach Road will soon be shifted to the Government General Hospital building.

It will occupy the space vacated by the maternity ward which was being shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Women and Children Hospital at Ellaipillaichavady, a senior official at the Health Department said.

According to the official, the department was awaiting the clearance of fire service to move the maternity ward to the Women and Children Hospital.

The NRHM office would then be shifted to the existing maternity ward at the Government General Hospital along with the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation centre and the office of the Health Directorate.

Creating awareness

Being a heritage building, the existing NRHM office would then be converted into a “Gallery” to create health awareness among people, the official said.
