Sharmada wins a marathon
AURANGABAD: Sharmada Balu fought her way past wild card entrant Rishika Sunkara 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-5 in the pre-quarterfinals of the Endurance ITF women's tennis tournament at the EMMTC Complex on Wednesday.
Three other Indians also went down to seeded players, with Prerna Bhambri putting up a good fight against the top-seeded Sung-Hee Han of Korea in her 6-4, 6-4 defeat. Sharmada will be up against the Korean in the quarterfinals.
Ankita Raina lost 6-4, 6-0 to the eighth-seeded Ai Yamamoto of Japan, while Kyra Shroff lost 6-1, 6-0 to the second-seeded Nicole Clerico of Italy.
