PROUD MOMENT:A.V. Jayaveena, who has sizzled at the National Games, with her father, actor Vijay. RANCHI: A.V. Jayaveena, a 12-year-old sensation from Tamil Nadu, was the cynosure of all eyes on the fourth day of the swimming competition at the 34th National Games here on Wednesday. The day also witnessed stars like Virdhawal Khade and Richa Mishra bite the dust. Jayaveena, who had clinched two bronze medals earlier, emerged with her first silver in her pet event — 50m breaststroke. Despite coming up with an outstanding show and clocking her personal best, Jayaveena could not overtake Maharashtra's Poorva Shetye. The latter's time of 35.74s erased the meet mark of 36.06 which stood in the name of Saba Sait of Tamil Nadu. Richa was pushed to the fifth spot in the race. Jayaveena clocked 36.86 in what was her first senior meet, her previous best being 38.06. The class VII student of Chettinad Vidyashram in Chennai drew praise from Tamil Nadu coach Mukundan. “She is one of the outstanding talents from the State. Her success is due to her dedication and sincerity,'' he said. Meanwhile, a few records fell during the day. The Karnataka quartet set new records in the men's and women's 4x200m freestyle events and Sandeep Sejwal produced a new mark in men's 50m breaststroke. K.M. Vishnu of Services began the proceedings with a fantastic effort in 200m butterfly. He clocked 2:10.34s to comprehensively beat Khade to the silver spot.
