CHENNAI: The organisers of the Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (BFAME) championship, which is to be held here from May 26 to June 2, have been finding it difficult to rope in sponsors for the event.
M. Azwerul Haque, the Karachi-based Secretary and VP of BFAME, said: “Finding sponsors is always difficult for a sport that has poor patronage.”
Mr. Haque said he was happy that Chennai was ready to host this event under the auspices of the Bridge Federation of India.
He also said the championship formed the qualification test for the World championship (Bermuda Bowl). Both the finalists from BFAME qualify for the worlds, which is to be held in the Netherlands. With India and Pakistan having won six championships each, these two countries should normally be the zonal qualifiers. Bahrain, Bangladesh, Jordan, Kuwait, Nepal, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and Syria are the other competitors in the championship.
