Programme for pottery artisans

Nimble :A craftsman making a pot at the skill upgradation training in Kusalarkudi village.
PUDUKOTTAI: Pottery artisans should take initiative to learn and practice new designs to keep abreast of modern designs and augment their revenue, said S. M. Rasumani, General Manager, District Industries Centre.
Such an initiative will also prevent this craft from getting extinct, he said at the inaugural of the pottery skill upgradation training programme organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Government of India, in Kusalakudi village recently.
S. Prithiviraj, president, Small Scale Industries Association of Pudukottai district, said that with the concept of cooking in pots gaining popularity, even star hotels had started informing customers that they would serve food prepared in pots . R. L. N. Moorthy, Assistant Development Officer (ADO), KVIC, Madurai, said artisans selected for the training will be given wheels at subsidised rate. Cash award will also be given to the best artisans.
Thiraviyarani Ashokpandian, Pudukottai panchayat president, urged the participants to take full advantage of the programme Over 20 pottery artisans participated in the week-long programme.
