Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: The student Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samithi on Thursday gave a call to educational institutions in coastal and Rayalaseema regions to observe a bandh on Friday protesting against the assault on Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan on the Assembly premises in Hyderabad.

At a media conference , co-convener of student JAC N.V Ramana deplored the attack and asked the State government to punish the guilty. Earlier, the students burnt an effigy of Telangana Rashtra Samithi on the campus and raised slogans against the TRS. The political JAC also condemned the attack.

In Visakhapatnam, Seemandhra JAC convener Adari Kishore Kumar gave call for bandh of all educational institutions under the jurisdiction of 14 universities in the region. He termed the attack a ‘black day' for Indian democracy and wanted all political parties to strongly condemn it.

The Hyderabad Police Commissioner should suo motu take action against the accused and expressed the fear that people of Andhra region might be attacked if Telangana State was formed.

Taking out a procession with an effigy of the TRS party from Dr. V.S. Krishna Library in Andhra University, the Lok Satta and JAC leaders staged a rasta roko at the busy Siripuram Junction and burnt the effigy. The unruly behaviour targeting the Governor inside the House was condemned by leaders of all parties. Professors from Andhra University felt President's Rule might be imposed if such acts continued.

Lok Satta party leaders along with those from Telugu Desam Party, and CPI took out a rally asking people not to tolerate attacks on democracy.
