HYDERABAD: Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar has directed City Commissioner of Police A.K. Khan to arrest Mallesham, driver of TRS floor leader Etala Rajender, for assaulting Lok Satta MLA N. Jayaprakash Narayan on Assembly premises on Thursday. His direction followed a report submitted by Legislature Secretary S. Raja Sadaram and Chief Marshal T. Arthur on the incident at the Media Point. The report was based on the footage captured by the television channels at the Media Point where the LSP MLA was assaulted after addressing journalists. Eyewitnesses also identified him as the culprit. Mallesham will be produced before the Deputy Speaker and the punishment would be announced after the House discusses the two incidents including disruption of Governor's address. On the role of some TRS MLAs in the incident, the decision to act against them would depend on the debate in the House. However, the legislators guilty of unruly behaviour may also face action. It is understood that the injury sustained by Council Chairman A. Chakrapani during Governor's address also prompted serious action on the violent incidents. Earlier, the Deputy Speaker held a meeting with the Director General of Police K. Aravinda Rao, Mr. Khan and the Legislature Secretary. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy briefed AICC president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel and Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram about the incident. He also called up Dr. JP and expressed his regret for the assault.
