Heavy demand for management graduates

Staff Reporter

Namakkal: There is heavy demand for management graduates and professionals owing to increasing competition, says Director of the PSG Institute of Management R. Nandagopal.

Forty to fifty percent of the clerical jobs of the past have now been replaced by management graduates in the junior, mid-level and senior executive cadre, he adds.

He was addressing the gathering during the inauguration of a two-day International Conference on Global Challenges of Emergent India – A Management Perspective that was held at Tiruchengode Vivekanandha Institutions for Women, recently.

Competition

He pointed out that the demand for young graduates in managerial and administrative positions was increasing as they alone could withstand competition.

The average age of a CEO that had been between 55 and 60 years had now dropped to 25-30 years, whether it was a traditional business or a newly-established one, he added.

On the existing placement scenario, he felt that companies were on the look out for a few highly- competent professionals for whom they were ready to pay high pay scales.

This was in sharp contrast to the practice in earlier years of recruiting a large number of people to carry out the same work.

He noted that an increase in output was expected from management graduates.

Companies preferred to employ a person who had a positive outlook towards life rather than those who were merely class toppers.

He asked the students to be prepared to take up jobs anywhere, and to be ethical and true right from preparing the resume. Chairman and Secretary of the institutions M. Karunanidhi inaugurated the conference.
