Kolkata: The West Bengal Government will decide its course of action in respect of the Netai firing incident after studying the interim order given by the Calcutta High Court on Friday. Answering journalists' queries whether the Government would approach the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court direction that the case be shifted from the State's Criminal Investigation Department to the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Chief Secretary said: “The Court has taken a view and ordered that the case be shifted to the CBI. We will take any decision in this regard only after studying the judgment.” Asked whether he was happy with the way the CID was conducting its investigations into the incident, which left nine persons dead, Mr. Ghosh said he had no view on this. “The CID report was submitted to the High Court,” he said. Asked if the case was not being monitored properly, he merely said that in criminal cases “investigating officers have an important role.”
