Sibutramine formulation banned

PANAJI: The Union Government, in exercise of powers conferred under section 26-A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940, has prohibited the manufacture of sale and distribution of drugs having Human Placental Extract Sibutramine, R-Sibutramine, Nimesulide Paediatric Preparatin Cisapride Phenylpropanolamine and its formulation for human use with immediate effect.

All the manufacturers in Goa as well as all the drugs distributors, wholesalers and the medical stores, chemists and druggists in the State have been directed to stop manufacture for sale as well as distribution of the said drug in the State.

All drug wholesalers have been directed to call back all supplies of the said drug distributed to retailers from the market without fail and return the un-used stocks to manufacturers under intimation to the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration.

Through an official release issued here on Thursday, all doctors, medical practitioners, hospitals, nursing homes, government hospitals and so on have been asked to take note of the above banned drugs and return the stocks to suppliers on the earliest.
