HYDERABAD: Irate mobs damaged seven vehicles, including the Scorpio of the South zone DCP, at Hussainialam police station on Friday, protesting the alleged remark made by a Sub-Inspector the previous day. Police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesters and bring the situation under control. Accusing the SI, M. Raju, of making inflammatory religious remarks, over 500 persons gathered at the police station. Leading the protesters, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen MLA, Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, and some party corporators alleged that the SI had hurt the sentiments of a community with his comment and sought his suspension. Stone pelting After the police officials assured action against the SI and an inquiry into the incident, the protesters started leaving the place but suddenly began pelting stones at the vehicles parked on the road. They targeted police vehicles, damaging windscreens of the vehicles of south zone DCP, Mirchowk ACP, two Rakshak vehicles, two bikes and a car. A couple of youngsters were also injured in the stone pelting. Police Commissioner A.K. Khan took stock of the situation after visiting the police station. He said an inquiry would be conducted into the ‘remarks' made by the SI. Action would be initiated if he was at fault. Cases were registered for damaging the vehicles and efforts were on to identify the persons responsible for it. The Charminar ACP, M. Rammohan Rao, said the SI was on patrol duty in his sector on Thursday when a youth approached him seeking permission for a religious rally. Inappropriate comment When the SI sought to know the reason for the rally, the youngster replied that it was in the backdrop of Milad-un-Nabi. As the SI told him that processions in other parts of the city in that connection were already over, the youth said they wanted to take out a procession on Friday. “On Friday, the youngster alleged that during the conversation, the SI made some inappropriate comment,” the ACP explained.
