International conference on software engineering
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is working with automotive and textile clusters to encourage adoption of IT by small and medium enterprises, Som Mittal, president of the industry body said here on Friday.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the international conference on software engineering, ‘Software quality — the road ahead', organised by the Computer Society of India. “With the cloud (computing services) coming in, it is possible to offer IT services at a very reasonable cost,” he said. Improved connectivity and the potential of cloud computing will give the domestic IT market “a very large fillip”, he said. A fresh breed of entrepreneurs in this emerging field will drive complacency out of the existing biggies, he added.

He also said that 80 per cent of the fresh opportunities for the country's IT and ITeS sector in the current decade (2011-2020) will come from new geographies, verticals and customer segments. “So, I think we need different focussed approaches for the next decade. We have a sound foundation for it.”
