Four women labourers die in road accident

Unfortunate:The accident site where both vehicles lie damaged in Tumkur on Friday.
Tumkur: Four women labourers died on the spot and 12 others were injured when a KSRTC bus collided with their vehicle near the Hattihalli Gate in Turuvekere taluk here on Friday.
According to the police, the KSRTC bus was coming from Sampige village to Turuvekere, while the vehicle carrying 20 labourers was going from Turuvekere to Thavarekere. The driver of the bus lost control causing the accident.
The police identified the victim's as Thopamma (65), Padmamma (25), Bhagyamma (45), all residents of Thavarekere, and Venkatalalshmamma (60), a resident of Muniyuru.
Out of the 12 injured, 10 are being treated at the government hospital in Tumkur and two were shifted to NIMHANS in Bangalore.
The driver of the vehicle carrying the labourers has also been admitted to the hospital in Tumkur. The KSRTC bus driver is absconding.
People of Thavarekere staged a protest at the accident spot demanding suitable compensation for the victims' families. Additional Superintendent of Police Shashikumar, who visited the spot, said a compensation of Rs. 50,000 would be paid by the KSRTC.
A case of negligent and rash driving has been registered against the bus driver in the Dandinashivara police station.
