Two suspended for duty lapses

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) suspended Medical Officer of Health (Govindarajanagar), Dr. Sunil, and second division Assistant G.T. Nagaraj on charges of dereliction of duty.

According to a press release here on Friday, even though there were clear directives to collect trade licence fees only through demand drafts, the two were collecting it in cash. The release stated that from January 1 to 31, 2010, they had collected Rs. 10.68 lakh, but had not remitted it to the BBMP.

They reportedly admitted to their mistake. The BBMP found irregularities to the tune of Rs. 10.68 lakh and an inquiry would be conducted. Dr. Sunil, who is currently on deputation from the Health and Family Welfare Department, has been suspended and sent to the parent department. The BBMP has also sent an official request to the department to file a police complaint against Dr. Sunil, while criminal proceedings would be initiated against Mr. Nagaraj.
