Yeddyurappa blackmailing Opposition, says Ugrappa

Special Correspondent

He demands an apology from the Chief Minister

V.S. Ugrappa

BANGALORE: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson V.S. Ugrappa on Thursday alleged that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was “blackmailing” the Opposition leaders by threatening that he would disclose more information about the properties they accumulated when in power, to hide the fact how he and his family members amassed properties and wealth worth several crores misusing his official position.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Ugrappa also alleged that Mr. Yeddyurappa was misleading the people on various issues of corruption. The Congress leader dared Mr. Yeddyurappa order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into all the charges.

He contrasted the Congress' resolve in getting resignation from its leaders holding positions of authority and Union Ministers including A. Raja of the DMK and subjecting them to investigation by the CBI under the supervision of the Supreme Court with that of the Yeddyurappa Government. Mr. Ugrappa demanded a reply from him on how his undivided family purchased large tracts of land in Shimoga and Shikaripur worth crores when its income was a mere Rs. 2.5 lakh from agriculture, a couple of years ago. Is it possible to make so much of properties and become directors and share holders in ten companies in such a short period? he asked.

Mr. Ugrappa said that he was surprised to know how senior BJP leaders such as L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely could face the Congress in Parliament when issues of corruption were raised there.
