22 inmates shifted from Hubli sub-jail

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: Authorities in Hubli subjail shifted 22 inmates to various prisons in the State, following the incident on Friday in which 24 police officers and personnel were injured.

While seven prisoners were sent to both Bijapur and Bellary jails, eight were shifted to Belgaum prison on Saturday.

It might be recalled that the inmates ransacked the jail premises and threw stones at police personnel in protest against the shifting of an accused in a murder case to Gulbarga jail.

The police had to fire tear gas shells and rubber bullets to control the violence.
