‘24 lakh bogus ration cards in State'

Special Correspondent

Belwadgi: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Saturday revealed a startling information that there were 25 lakh bogus ration cards in the State and the food grains meant to be distributed through the Public Distribution System were being diverted to the open market. Speaking after handing over the keys of Aasare houses to the beneficiaries at a function here on Saturday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the State Government had decided to put down the large-scale diversion of food grains meant for PDS firmly by streamlining the entire distribution system and also cancelling the bogus ration cards.

“The Government was considering decentralisation of the release of food grains to the PDS outlets and in future it is proposed to supply them at district and taluk headquarters to the outlets and introduce accountability into these outlets.”
