Aadukalam (Tamil) Cast: Dhanush, Jayaba lan, Narein Director: Vetri Maran Yet another fine movie from the Tamil film industry. Aadukalam, written and directed by Vetri Maran, is all about how a person is ultimately crushed by his own ego. Set against the popular cockfights of Madurai, the movie keeps the viewer enthused till the very end. The violence in the movie is also justified; unlike other Tamil movies in this genre, it does little to glorify violence. Pettaikaran (Jayabalan) and police officer Ratnasamy (Narein) are bitter rivals in the game of cockfights. Pettaikaran is always the winner. Now, a dejected Ratnasamy wants to fulfil the last wish of his dying mother and be the winner. Though he keeps prodding Pettaikaran for a game, the latter avoids it. Meanwhile, one of Pettaikaran's friends dies in an accident. Pettaikaran suspects Ratnasamy and finally agrees to the cockfight on condition that the loser gives up cockfights forever. Ratnasamy brings high-breed cocks from outside to challenge Pettaikaran. Just then Karuppu (Dhanush), a member of Pettaikaran's team, steps in and asks him to let his cock fight against Ratnasamy's cocks. A stubborn Pettaikaran declines permission. But Karuppu enters the fray. Pettaikaran does not accept Karuppu as his representative. Finally, Karuppu emerges victorious. The victory hurts Pettaikaran much. Dhanush and Jayabalan essay their roles to perfection. Cameraman Velraj's visuals and G.V. Prakash's music add to the quality of the movie. G. Jayakumar
