Salgaocar downs Chirag

KOLKATA: Salgaocar SC erased a goal's deficit to defeat Chirag United SC 4-1 in a 15th round I-League football match at the Salt Lake Stadium, here on Sunday.

Elijah Jr. put the home team ahead in the fourth minute, but the visitor made a fine turn-around as Yusif Yakubu equalised to force a 1-1 tie at half-time. Francis Fernandes found the lead in the second session minutes before striker striker Ekene Ikenwa scored two late goals to help Salgaocar ensure full points and consolidate its position at the top of the standings.

The win took Salgaocar's point count to 34 from 15 matches, Chirag remained on 19 points from 15 outings. — Principal Correspondent
