Bangalore: Two railway employees, working on the railway tracks between Niduvand and Doddabele railway stations, near here, were run over by the Shimoga Intercity Express on Sunday morning. Government Railway Police identified the victims as Devanathan (51), a senior supervisor, and Shivalingaiah (50), a gangman. They were attached to the Tumkur railway station and were supervising track repair when the accident occurred around 11.30 a.m. While Devanathan died on the spot, Shivalingaiah, who was rushed to the government hospital in Thyamagondlu, died there. Eyewitnesses told The Hindu that the victims did not notice the approaching train. At least 15 men were working on the track on which a truck dumped gravel which raised dust. The victims, to avoid the dust, jumped on the second track on which the Intercity Express was running.
