CHENNAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday searched the house of D.S. Moorthy (65), former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Anbumani Ramadoss when he was Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare.

The search pertained to alleged irregularities in permitting Index Medical College, Indore (Madhya Pradesh), to admit students.

Sources in the agency said that a special team of the CBI's Anti Corruption Branch from New Delhi conducted the search early on Monday following the arrival of Mr. Moorthy from the United States. The investigating agency had locked his house at Chetpet a month ago.

The CBI had registered a case last year against the college authorities, two senior doctors of Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, and others.

The allegation is that the college established in 2007 was allowed to admit students despite inadequate infrastructure/manpower. Forged documents were used to get permission for admitting students, the sources said.

“Mr. Moorthy is a former Intelligence Bureau (IB) official who served as OSD to the then Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. When we went to his house, it was informed that he was living in the US...we locked the house and informed him. On specific information that Moorthy had arrived, the search was conducted on Monday,” a CBI official said.

Stating that documents relating to the alleged irregularities were seized during the search, the official said the agency had inputs about the involvement of Mr. Moorthy in the case.
