Ariyalur lawyers begin indefinite strike

Staff Reporter

Advocates demand a combined court complex for the new district

ARIYALUR: Advocates in Ariyalur locked court rooms and started their indefinite sit-in strike on Monday, demanding a combined court complex for the new district. Their court boycott entered the ninth consecutive working day, paralysing the functioning of the legal machinery in the district. A total of 35 advocates have erected a shamiana on the premises with a resolve to continue their protest until the High Court apprises them of the steps it has taken to get the combined court complex sanctioned by the Home Ministry.

Dismay

They expressed dismay over what they claimed the delay on the part of the High Court to furnish in time the particulars that the Home Ministry has sought regarding the number of cases that have to be transferred from Perambalur to Ariyalur and the staff requirement.

Policemen were deployed outside the court campus.
