Petrol price hike a blow to people: Kodiyeri

‘State implemented various development projects'

KATTAPPANA: The United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre is in the midst of scams, and the corruption in the allotment of 2 G spectrum itself is enough to shake the nation, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.

Reception

He was addressing a public rally organised as part of the Vikasana Munnetta Jatha, led by him, at Cheruthoni, near here, on Monday.

Mr. Balakrishnan said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was protecting Finance Minister P. Chidambaram while sending the former Telecom Minister Raja to jail. He said that the Prime Minister could not absolve himself from the S-band spectrum corruption case. With the corruption involved in the conduct of Commonwealth Games, Adarsh flat, and IPL coming out, the real picture of the Congress and its leaders was revealed.

The Minister alleged that the Central government was doing immense harm to the common man and farmers. He said that the unprecedented increase in the prices of petroleum products witnessed during the Congress rule resulted in a general price rise, making life miserable for the common man. The Congress party's “anti-people” polices were evident in the declassification of rubber and coffee farmers from the list of farmers, Mr. Balakrishnan said.

Various schemes

He said that the LDF government had implemented various project for the development of the State. The State government which stood for the working community was instrumental in implementing many welfare schemes and the welfare fund for migrant workers was an example, he said. In the implementation of the housing schemes and ensuring law and order, the State was a model for others, he said.

Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran, Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran, Transport Minister Jose Thettayil, Port and Youth Welfare Minister P. Surendran Pillai and LDF leaders accompanied the jatha which was given receptions at Adimaly, Cheuthoni, Nedumkandam and Vandiperiyar.

It will conclude at Thodupuzha on Tuesday.
