TIRUCHI: Nagapattinam railway station has been declared an ‘Adarsh' station by the Railway Board. It is the third railway station in the Tiruchi Railway Division after Tiruchi Junction and Tiruvarur to be added to the list of ‘adarsh' (model) stations across the country.

Having been included in the ‘Adarsh' list, passenger amenities are being augmented at the station which is being used by more and more travellers.

Two air-conditioned retiring rooms, a non air-conditioned one and a dormitory with eight beds are the latest facilities that have been established.

A coach indication board and coach identification board is to be installed and work on construction of a toilet is under way.

New furniture had been provided at the retiring rooms, a senior railway official here said.

Two pairs of long-distance express trains between Nagore and Chennai, and Nagore – Ernakulam, besides three pairs of passenger trains from Tiruchi to Nagore and one pair between Thanjavur and Nagore are being operated through Nagapattinam.

Passenger earnings through sale of unreserved tickets from Nagapattinam alone works out to Rs. 50,000 a day on an average, while the earnings through reserved tickets is about Rs. 2 lakh, say railway authorities adding that it was higher than earnings generated from Tiruvarur station.

Two newly-constructed non air-conditioned retiring rooms with modern furniture at the station were thrown open to public use a few days ago.
