Modern Cricketers pips Friends

Bangalore: N. Sagar's century went in vain as Friends Cricket Team suffered a two-wicket defeat at the hands of Modern Cricketers in a KSCA Division V (Group I) match here recently.

Sagar contributed exactly 100 as Friends posted a total of 255 in 48.1 overs. Modern Cricketers, in response, chased down the score with two overs to spare. G. Vijay top-scored for the victor with 81.

The scores: Bowlers CC 185 in 29.1 overs (B.S. Harish 33, Shringesh three for 26, Satya three for 34) bt SSK CC 98 in 21 overs (Manjunath 31, Mohan four for 16, Siddesh three for 25).

Mathikere CC 250 in 48.3 overs (Calvin 73, Gajendra 38, Vinay Paul 25, B. Shivashankar three for 45) bt S.J. Polytechnic CC 166 in 41 overs (B. Shivashankar 43, Rohith 43, K. Chethan Kumar three for seven, Raghupathy three for 19).

Kengeri CC 284 in 49.5 overs (Ananth 59, Deepak 56, Praveen 42, Madhusudhan 27, Ashok 26, Rahul Kumar four for 63, Abhilash three for 93) bt Diamond CC 201 in 20 overs (B.K. Sharath 45, Girish Reddy 37, Eshwar 28, Praveen six for 53, Ashok three for 39).

Friends Cricket Team 255 in 48.1 overs (N. Sagar 100, Suhas Katke 30, L.M. Sunil 30, S. Harish four for 42) lost to Modern Cricketers 258 for eight in 48 overs (G. Vijay 81, Nagendra 55, Umashankar 45 n.o., Vishwanath three for 67).

Blue Diamond Cricketers 190 in 46.1 overs (Venkatesh Reddy 55, Rajesh five for 36) lost to YMCA (2) 194 for nine in 40.1 overs (Raju 55, Naveen 26 n.o., Shashi three for 24, Venkatesh Reddy three for 50).

Super CC 169 in 37.5 overs (Anand 34, Hanumanth 30, Divyang Japin 26, Arul four for 37, Chinay three for 50) lost to Citizen Cultural Association 170 for four in 32 overs (Vikas 70, Raghavendra 66 n.o.).

United CC 100 in 20 overs (Dinesh 26, Inayath four for 15, Raghavendra four for 61) lost to Merchants CC (2) 101 for eight in 27.1 overs (Rahul Singh 33, Krishnamurthy three for 22).

KSCA's appeal

With demand for tickets and passes for Sunday's World Cup match between India and England at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here reaching unreasonable proportions, the Karnataka State Cricket Association appealed to the fans to show restraint and accept the constrained circumstances.

Through a press release, the KSCA official spokesperson Sujith Somasundar said: “We are fortunate that a match as prestigious as the India-England contest has been allocated to Bangalore.

“We appeal to everyone concerned to desist from seeking complimentary passes or demand tickets in bulk.

“Everyone wants to be involved with the World Cup experience but it is our duty to act responsibly and to honour the stipulations laid down. Let's enjoy the cricket, and let's do so peacefully.”

The sale of tickets through the counters will commence on Thursday though less than 10,000 seats are available.

Inter-club handicap tournament

Indian Gymkhana will conduct its inaugural inter-club handicap tournament from March 11 at its premises on Wheelers Road. Each team will have four players with three to play in the snooker-100 up billiards-snooker format.

A total prize money of Rs. 47,000 and a rolling trophy await the winners.

Entries along with a fee of Rs. 1500 per team should reach Indian Gymkhana, No.5, Wheeler Road, Cox Town, Bangalore – 560 005 (Ph: 25486422 / 25483205) on or before March 5.
