“32 lives lost during '84 riots in Haryana village”

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government on Thursday clarified that 32 people had lost their lives in Hond-Chillar village in Rewari district during the anti-Sikh riots in 1984.

An official spokesman said compensation of Rs.7 lakh each was given by the Government under State and Central schemes to the next of kin of the deceased.

Compensation

Compensation of Rs.1 lakh each for damage to property was also given in 2006 for 36 properties. The total compensation disbursed to next of kin of the victims of the unfortunate violence was Rs.2.55 crore, he added.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has already sought a report from the Divisional Commissioner of Gurgaon and assured that those guilty of this heinous act will be brought to book.
