VISAKHAPATNAM: Host and last year's winner Visakhapatnam coasted to an eight-wicket win over New Mangalore in the inaugural match of the 30th all-India Major Ports Twenty20 cricket tournament at the Port Stadium, here on Friday.

The Deputy Chairman of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust, G.V.L. Satya Kumar, inaugurated the tournament.

In another match, Chennai defeated Kandla by three wickets with two balls to spare in a Pool ‘A' league match.

The scores: Pool ‘A' (at ACA-VDCA Stadium): Mormugao 110 for eight (Devidas Kholkar 38, Yogesh Dicholkar three for 25) lost to Mumbai 111 for three in 17.4 overs (Nilesh Patwardhan 41 n.o., Gajendra Kochade 34 n.o.). At Zinc Stadium: Kandla 133 in 19.5 overs (K. Rakesh Khushalani 29, C. Diwakaran three for 16, R. Satyaseelan three for 30) lost to Chennai 134 for seven in 19.4 overs (P. Mohan 32, Prakash Janu three for 30).

Pool ‘B': At Port Stadium: New Mangalore 75 for six in 20 overs (Sathish 50 n.o.) lost to Visakhapatnam 76 for two in 8.2 overs (K.N.V. Krishna Mohan 33 n.o., H. Vatekar 32 n.o.); Paradip 124 for nine (S.K. Panda 78, Adrich Gonsalves three for 17) lost to JNPT 128 for three in 14.3 overs (Ranjit Deshmukh 59 n.o., Nandu Mhatre 25) .
