1,306 high schools lack toilets, 2,851 schools do not have drinking water in State
nowhere to go:Gulbarga district tops the list with the highest number of high schools without toilets.
BANGALORE: A whopping 1,306 government high schools in the State do not have toilets! This is not all. Students of 566 high schools and 2,285 primary schools do not have access to drinking water on the school premises.
This was disclosed by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri to the Legislative Council to a question by Independent member Y.A. Narayanaswamy.
Interestingly, the backward district of Gulbarga tops the list with the highest number of high schools without toilets — 102 — followed by Hassan (82), Mysore (78), Raichur (74) and Bellary (75).
Uttara Kannada is the only district that has the distinction of having toilets for all his government high schools while Bangalore North and South Educational districts too have four and two high schools respectively without toilets.
Meanwhile, in the written reply, the Minister said 2,285 primary schools and 566 high schools in the State did not have drinking water facility.
Bidar tops the list of districts with largest number of primary schools without drinking water as it has 348 such schools followed by Raichur (326), Belgaum (322) and Bijapur (247).
Raichur district tops the list of districts with highest number of high schools sans drinking water facility by accounting for 53 such schools followed by Bidar (46), Chikkodi (41) and Yadgir (39).
