Seminar on trends in biosciences

MYSORE: The Department of Botany, in association with the Bioscience Department, St. Philomena's College, Mysore, is conducting a national seminar on ‘Upgrading the curriculum with the emerging trends in biosciences' on the college campus on February 28 and March 1.

The seminar has been organised to explore new areas in the field of science that would benefit humanity and inspire young minds, according to the organisers.

The seminar aims to upgrade the curriculum and make biosciences viable, productive and marketable; rekindle scientific interest among students; explore new areas of bio-scientific achievements and research opportunities; and inculcate values of biosciences among the public, a press release from the college said.

Different branches of biology such as biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, botany and zoology will be covered in the seminar.

The seminar will be part of the ongoing academic and research initiatives.

Eminent resource persons such as Cletus D. Souza, H.S. Prakash, Gokul H., M.C. Misra, Shakuntala Katre and others will participate. Dr. D. Souza, chairman, Department of Studies in Biochemistry, University of Mysore, will inaugurate the seminar on Monday at 9.30 a.m.
