PATHANAMTHITTA: Anto Antony, MP, has called upon Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and the government to extend the State government's support for the proposed medical college project on the Central University's Kerala Campus at the Kinfra park at Elamannur near Adoor. The MP, accompanied by Pathanamthitta MLA K.Sivadasan Nair and district panchayat president Babu George, was addressing a press conference here on Saturday. Mr. Antony said the Central University's proposal to set up a full-fledged medical college at Adoor in the pattern of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, had already got clearance of the Academic Council, Finance Committee and the Executive Council of the Central University. The matter was pending before the Union Ministry of Human Resources for final approval, he said. He said Industries Minister Elamaram Karim had agreed to allot 58 acres at the Kinfra park at Elamannur for setting up the proposed Central University campus. Meanwhile, Mr. Achuthanandan had reportedly stated in his Kasaragod speech recently that there was no question of shifting the proposed medical college in the Endosulfan-hit Kasaragod to Adoor. Mr. Antony said the UDF was not against setting up a medical college in Kasaragod. But, it should not be at the expense of Pathanamthitta, he added. He said the Chief Minister should withdraw his statement on the proposed medical college at Adoor.
