“Set up immigration office soon”
Staff Reporter
“Take steps for Air India Express to operate flight services from Madurai”
VIRUDHUNAGAR: Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu have asked the Union Minister for Civil Aviation Vayalar Ravi to expedite the process of setting up the immigration office at Madurai airport.
B. Manickam Tagore, N.S.V. Chitthan, J.M. Aaron Rashid, S. Ramasubbu, and M. Krishnasamy met the Union Minister at New Delhi recently and handed over a memorandum pressing for setting up the immigration office, a pre-requisite for international flight operations from Madurai airport.
The memorandum pointed out that the airport had received Customs Notification. Though officials of the Customs Department had visited the airport and identified space for setting up their office, officials from the Immigration Department were yet to visit.
The MPs drew the attention of the Minister the inability of some airlines interested in operating international flights from Madurai owing to non-allotment of seats by the Ministry.
They wanted him to take steps for Air India Express to operate flight services to destinations in the Gulf region, Malaysia, and Singapore from Madurai.
