Master health check-up at Rs.500 in five centres

CHENNAI: The master health check-up facilities of the Chennai Corporation will be inaugurated in Saidapet on Tuesday, said Mayor M. Subramanian.

Inaugurating diabetes clinics in Perambur and Valluvar Kottam on Saturday, Mr.Subramanian said, “The master health check-up will be done at five centres by collecting a fee of Rs.500. A large number of poor people will benefit from the scheme.” The five centres are Valluvar Kottam, EVR Salai, Perambur, Saidapet and Thiruvanmiyur.

A total of 19 tests including complete haemogram, X-ray, ECG, blood test, urea, uric acid, SGOT&PT, lipid profile, ASO, CRP, RA, VDRL, scan and HIV test would be covered under the scheme.

“Similar tests cost around Rs.4,500 in private hospitals,” said Mr.Subramanian.

Medicines given

free of cost

Over 1,500 patients are being given drugs for diabetes at the Corporation hospitals a day free of cost, he added.

Distribution of pamphlets

As most of the diseases are caused because of diabetes, the Chennai Corporation has planned to distribute pamphlets on diabetes control to all visitors to its 200 health centres free of cost, said Mr.Subramanian.

The pamphlets would have complete information on all aspects of diabetes including the right food and exercise for diabetes control.

Deputy Commissioner (Health) Ashish Kumar was present.
