Minister to open synthetic track

KOCHI: Minister for Sports and Public Works M. Vijayakumar will inaugurate the artificial turf and synthetic track at the Regional Sports Centre (RSC) here on Sunday.

Manohar Prabhu, honorary secretary of RSC, said here that the FIFA-grade artificial green turf could be used extensively throughout the year. He said that the ground would be dry and ready to play within 10 minutes after heavy rain. Besides using the turf for football matches, handball, and volleyball games could also be held here, Mr. Prabhu said.

He said that the synthetic track consisted of three-lane oval track of 200 metres and four-lane sprint track of 80 metres.
