2.5 lakh children to get polio drops

TIRUCHI: Over 2.5 lakh children below the age of five in the district will be administered polio drops during the second phase of pulse polio programme on Sunday.

The district administration has made arrangements to administer polio drops to children through the 1,523 special centres that would be set up in rural, corporation, and municipal areas. The pulse polio programme will commence at 7 a.m. and go on up to 5 p.m.

Arrangements have also been made to administer polio drops through 52 mobile teams which would go to those places where the parents were unable to bring their children to the special centres.

Polio drops would also be administered to children in places of worship, all bus stands, railway stations, airport, and Mukkombu tourist spot for a period of three days from February 27 to March 1.

Polio drops would also be administered to children on board Tiruchi–Manapparai, Tiruchi–Karur, Tiruchi–Thanjavur–Nagore passenger trains besides Pallavan Express.

Over 2.65 lakh children were administered polio drops during the first phase of pulse polio programme on January 23. A total number of 6,320 persons would be involved in the second phase , a press release here said.
