Naidu bats for direct cash transfer again
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to introduce Direct Cash Transfer to poor in place of the existing subsidies in the next budget and expand the scheme in a phased manner to make a meaningful effort in helping the poor.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, the TDP president said large administrative costs, inefficiency in targeting the poor and leakages in the form of benefitting non-poor proved to be incorrigible in the existing programmes. There was no justification in continuing the status quo arrangements when they were inimical to the interests of the poor and expensive to the economy.
